Amazing Kids! is proud to highlight the Amazing Kids! of the Month!

Each month, we showcase kids who are accomplishing amazing things. We hope that by telling their special stories, we will inspire other kids to accomplish their own amazing achievements.

"I have dyslexia and asthma. I have always had a problem learning because of it. I wanted to help kids learn how to live with it as a gift and do the things that they always wanted to do."

"I have a feeling we started something, Kids Extreme,which is having a ripple effect like a stone in a pond," said John-Henry. "All I need to do is find someone in each of those outer waves who is willing to throw another stone in the pond to get it started again."

Happy New Year from Amazing Kids! 

To kick off the New Year, this month we shine a light on the amazing work of John-Henry Lambin, a 13-year old boy who has asthma and dyslexia. 

Get ready to be inspired, as you read all about John-Henry's amazing work to help other kids like himself live fulfilling lives. Who knows?  Maybe you'll want to get involved helping kids cope with dyslexia or asthma too!

13 year-old John-Henry Lambin, of Gardnerville, Nevada, was diagnosed with asthma as a young boy.
Asthma is a long-term (chronic) disease of the respiratory system that causes inflammation and spasm or tightening in the bronchial tubes, which carry air to the lungs. The inflammation causes periodic episodes of difficulty breathing, wheezing, chest tightness, and coughing. His severe asthama hospitilaizes him a few times a year. John-Henry1
In addition to asthma, John-Henry was diagnosed with dyslexia. Dyslexia is a common learning disability that hinders the development of reading skills. Children who suffer from dyslexia have problems translating the phonemes and words. Normal words often looked scrambled to a dyslexic person.
John-Henry2 To John-Henry, being a stand up comedian was a whole lot easier than being asked to read in public! John-Henry's inability to read made it impossible to get work done in school using 8+ hours each night to do homework. His hopes and dreams of becoming an aeronautical engineer were fading fast.

But being a severe asthmatic and dyslexic has not kept amazing John-Henry down! A natural born leader John has shown courage and determination in the face of these two disabilities.

With a little hope and a lot of determination, Mr. Henry began researching to find a better way to live with asthma and dyslexia. Armed with over 500 hours of research and the concern over other children living with these disabilities John founded "Kids Extreme", an organization that helps children with these and other disabilities do the things these they could have only dreamed of doing.

Today John-Henry teaches other children how asthma can be controlled, by taking the correct medication and learning asthma's triggers.

He hopes to teach others how to use dyslexia as a gift that can bring remarkable talents.

"I have always had a problem learning because of it. I wanted to help kids learn how to live with it as a gift and do the things that they always wanted to do."
John-Henry recently received the Eagle Scout Award, the highest award given to Boy Scouts.  As part of his project for the award, John-Henry created several Public Service Announcements (PSAs) about dyslexia and asthma, and they have been shown on local television stations in his area!

The awards and recognition keep pouring in for amazing John-Henry.  He recently received a Prudential Spirit of Community Award from Prudential as an honoree for the State of Nevada.

You can watch John-Henry on the Disney Channel from time to time, as he appears in one of  the interstials called "Check This Kid Out," featuring 10 of our past Amazing Kids! of the Month! (A consultant for the children's entertainment industry, Amazing Kids! Founder and President Alyse Rome helped Disney cast the interstials for "Check This Kid Out," using former and future Amazing Kids! of the Month!) The interstials have been running since Spring 2005, and as of January, 2006, they are still being shown on the Disney Channel, so be sure to "check that kid out!"

"Kids Extreme" challenges and teaches other children to find a way of incorporating obstacles they may face due to their disabilities into their lives, and to use their disabilities as gifts. Amazing John-Henry encourages all children to live their dreams and never give up on their aspirations for the future.

Way to go, John-Henry! You are a remarkable role model for the youth and adults alike, and are one amazing kid!
