Kids! of the Month
Amazing Kids! is proud to highlight the Amazing Kids! of the Month! Each
month, we showcase kids who are accomplishing amazing
things. We hope that by telling their special stories, we will inspire
other kids to accomplish their own amazing achievements. Amazing
Young Artist, Osailys "Osita" Avila Milian; Havana City, Cuba
Quotes
of the Month:
“Painting
gives me the opportunity to be transported to a place of calmness and
serenity. This state of mind is then reflected in my artwork.”
“Don’t stop to create, keep going. This world is so beautiful, and we have to preserve its beauty and our ability to feel and be human.” ~ Osita Milian, age 15
Amazing Young Artist Havana City, Cuba August's Amazing Kids! of the Month: When it comes
to ways of communication, most people immediately think of speaking,
listening, and writing. Although not always viewed as such, art is also
undoubtedly a form of communication due to its ability and power to
express the artist’s emotions as well as evoke thoughts and feelings
from the audience. While when individuals often associate the likes of
Leonardo da Vinci, Pablo Picasso, or Vincent Van Gogh with the term
“artist”, this word truly encompasses many more individuals than those
distinguished few. Osailys Avila Milian from Havana City, Cuba is one
such person that proves an artist is not only a title or profession,
but rather someone who inspires others thorough messages concealed in
his or her artwork. Amazing Kids!
is pleased to present to you the inspiring story of Osita Milian from
Havana City, Cuba, our August Amazing
Kids! of the Month. Read her story below and who
knows? Perhaps you will be inspired to discover the "hidden"
artist in you just waiting to create your own works of art! And don't forget, if you, or a young person
(or persons!) you know, has an amazing project you are involved in, or
a special skill, talent or ability you want to tell the world about, be
sure to let Amazing Kids! know about it! Teachers are invited to
nominate their entire classroom and the amazing projects they are
working on too! Simply complete a nomination

Kid! of the Month award, or email us!
Osailys, referred to as Osita by her family and friends, became interested in painting due to her parents’ love for art and art collection. Osita first began drawing at the age of eight and soon became engrossed in this hobby. At ten years old, Osita attended the elementary school of visual arts, “Jose Antonio Diaz Pelaez”, which she graduated from last year. ![]() Osita and her friends from school Beginning this September, She will continue her study at the academy of paintings of “San Alejandro” for the next four years. ![]() ![]() Two

Osita's Exhibitions Despite her youth, Osita has already had two personal exhibitions of her artworks. The first, held in the Guerrero Gallery, took place in July of 2004 with the theme “Fantasy Paintings”. Osita’s more recent exhibition took place last August under the name “Not Far from the Sea”. Osita looks forward to her next exhibition in January of 2008 and has currently completed three artworks to be displayed. In addition to her exhibitions, Osita’s artwork has also been chosen for the Graphic for Exhibit award in the International Dinosaur Art contest this past March.
Osita admits that painting requires a considerable
amount of time and effort, for she must paint for her upcoming
exhibition while on vacation this summer. Painting, however, has also
taught this young artist important things about herself and her
passion. For one thing, she has learned that the world is an exciting
place and that painting has given her the unique opportunity to remove
herself from the anxiety and humdrum of life to a state of peace and
serenity. In addition, Osita realizes that although she enjoys painting
greatly, perseverance and consistency are the only roads to becoming a
better artist. In the future, Osita wishes to raise awareness of, as
well as preserve, the beauty of our society. More importantly, Osita
hopes to touch more hearts through her paintings and inspire the minds
of others to reflect on our world and ourselves as human beings. Be sure to read Osita's article about her life in Cuba

Kids! eZine, Issue #22. You'll find it under the "Global

WHY
NOT HELP OTHERS SEE THEIR OWN POTENTIAL?
