Dreams of Reality
Willie Dame figured it out when he was seven
years old. He figured out his dreams became true. If he dreamed
about getting straight A's in school, he got straight A's. It was
a secret no one knew about but him. All was going well until the
age of twelve when he had a nightmare...
Willie and his friend Tim William were just
walking out the school entrance talking about the upcoming weekend.
"Will, what are you going to do this weekend?"
questioned Tim.
"I really don't have anything planned, but
it's probably going to be another boring weekend like it always is," said
Will.
"Same here."
Right about then, he and Tim were at the school
crosswalk waiting for the walk signal to say "walk." The walk signal
lit up and they made their approach across when, out of nowhere:
"Screech!" A car sped around the corner of the crosswalk and hit
his friend Tim.
"Ahhhh!"
Will woke up from a deep sleep.
"What's the matter, Willie!" his mom yelled
from her bedroom.
"Nothing mom, just a bad nightmare!" he yelled
back. That was more than a nightmare; that was a friend's death,
thought Will. It all happened in the blink of an eye and Will knew
it would happen like that in real life and that he had to do something
about it. This was the first time he had ever really had a nightmare.
After Will calmed down, he got ready for school
and rushed out the door without even saying "bye" to his parents or eating
breakfast. Will knew today was going to be a hard day.
All throughout Will's classes he thought about
his nightmare. He could not imagine what it would be like without
his friend Tim. They went to school with each other all throughout
elementary and they looked after each other. He would not be able
to live with the thought of his friend dead. Will knew it was a matter
of life or death.
It was lunchtime now, the only time Will and
Tim saw each other.
"Tim, I have to tell you something very important,"
said Will.
"Ok," replied Tim.
"Now I'll get straight to the point.
Last night I was sleeping and I had a dream, not a good dream but a nightmare
and me and you are in it. What happened was, we were walking across
the school crosswalk and a car sped around the corner and hit you," said
Will frantically. He took a deep breath before he started again.
"That's not all Tim. I haven't told anyone
what I'm going to tell you right now. Tim, my dreams become true!"
Will ended.
"Ok, Will, what are you trying to pull with
me? Like anyone is going to believe that your dreams become true!"
said Tim, holding in his laugh.
"I know I joke a lot, but this time, I'm---"
"Drrring!" Will was cut off by the school
bell.
"See you later, Will. I got sixth period
next; important class!" Tim said laughing as he walked away.
"Bye," moaned Will.
Will knew Tim wasn't going to believe him.
Tim never believed anything unless he saw it. He was going to see
it all right. He is going to believe it when a car speeds around
the corner of the crosswalk and almost hits him, but I pull him back and
save his life. Oh, he'll believe it all right, thought Will. He will.
Will was in his last period of class, waiting
as time went by slowly. It was three minutes left till the bell rang.
Will's palms were sweating because he was thinking about his nightmare.
What if I can't keep him from crossing the crosswalk? Will could
only wonder what was going to happen.
"Drrring!" The school bell rang.
Kids paraded out of the classroom, including Will.
Will and Time always met at the front entrance
of the school.
"Hey Will, what are you going to do this weekend?"
questioned Tim.
Will knew his dream had now started.
He knew what he had to do.
"I really don't have anything planned, but
it's probably going to be another boring weekend," answered Will.
"Same here," said Tim.
Right about then, they were at the school crosswalk
waiting for the walking signal to say "walk." The sign lit up and
Tim tried to make his approach across, but something was holding him back;
it was Will.
"What are you doing!? I'm not going to
get---"
Tim was cut off by a loud "Screech!"
A car sped around the corner of the crosswalk, missing Tim by a few feet.
Tim was in shock.
"How in---!" Tim was interrupted.
"Now do you believe me?" Will replied.
"How in the world did you know that car was
going to come around the corner? I need an answer now, because I
know that wasn't a lucky guess."
Will stared into the sky. His secret
was revealed.
"I don't know Tim. I don't know."
That day, news reporters were all over the
school. Tim and Will were asked questions like: "How does it feel
to be a hero?" and "How does it feel to be saved?"
Being Tim, he had to answer every question.
He loved attention.
"It's not the fact that I was saved, but it
was the fact that Will knew that the car was going to come around the corner,"
replied Tim.
"What do you mean?" asked one of the reporters.
"I mean exactly what I say."
The crowd around him were holding in their
laughs.
"So you're saying he's a fortune teller?" asked
the same reporter.
"Yes, I am."
Will was mad at Tim right about now.
He wanted his secret to stay undercover. Hopefully no one took Tim's
speech seriously, thought Will.
Police, scientists, and news reporters all
showed up when Will got home. He knew the police and news reporters
would show up at his house, but why the scientists? Had they bought
Tim's words?
The police were the first to talk to Will.
He told them everything he knew about the car, the color, any unusual things
about the car, like its missing hub cap. Will only remembered half
of the license plate. Then the police were gone. The scientist
was next.
"Now Will, what was the talk about that kid
saying you knew about the car? Later on, he even said you had a dream
that it would happen. Is that true?" asked Dr. Sash, as Will could
see on her name tag. Will stared at the floor.
"Will, if you told me 'yes' right now, I would
believe you. Sometimes I have to believe; I'm a scientist."
Will lifted his head.
"Will you keep it a secret?" asked Will.
"For now I could, but sooner or later it will
come out. Now if you'll just give me your arm, I need to take a sample
of your blood." Will gave her his arm and she proceeded.
Could he trust this person now that she knew,
now that she knew his secret? Will wondered if she would talk and
if she did, what would happen. Will could imagine being hooked up
to a bunch of wires and people observing him. It was not a good thought.
Dr. Sash took the shot out of his arm.
"Ok, that's all I need for now. If I
find anything out, I will call you. Ok, bye." She waved good
bye and so did Will.
Will could not sleep that night, but
eventually he dozed off into his world of dreams...
Will was now talking to Dr. Sash.
"Will, I'm almost positive that your brain
thinks so fast that it interprets the future. So basically you can
tell the future. It's the only explanation!"......
"Will, Will wake up!" His dream
was cut short by his mom.
"What!" Will said half awake.
"Will you were shaking in your sleep.
You looked like you were having a seizure. Get dressed and we'll
go and see Dr. Sash," replied his mother.
"Mom, it was probably just a bad dream and
plus its late," Will answered.
"Get dressed!" his mom demanded.
Will was now in Dr. Sash's office.
"Well, Mrs. Dame, I can't tell you right away
why Will was having what you like to call a seizure, but if I had to guess
it would have something to do with his dreams. I do though have an
idea why he dreams into the future. I'm---" Dr. Sash was cut off
by Will.
"I'm almost positive that your brain thinks
so fast that it interprets the future. So basically you're a fortune
teller. It's the only explanation!" Will finished.
"How?" Dr. Sash replied in amazement.
"You thought I couldn't do it, did you?" guessed
Will.
"I had my suspicions," Dr. Sash answered.
"What's so big?" asked Will's mother.
"Mrs. Dame, your son just said the same exact
words that were going to come out of my mouth," said Dr. Sash.
"Oh my gosh!" Will's mother said in shock.
"Dr. Sash, I don't want anyone to know about
this," Will interrupted.
"But Will!---" Dr. Sash was stopped.
"I came in here today and confessed that I
was a flake and I just did this little scheme for a little attention.
I don't want to be chased around by government officials or scientists.
I just want to live a normal twelve year old life. All this should
be on the cover of the newspaper," replied Will.
"But Will, you could predict warfare and maybe
even the end of time!" said Dr. Sash.
"I know all this Dr. Sash, but this could get
into the wrong hands. Please Dr. Sash, you're the only one who can
stop this," begged Will.
Dr. Sash stared Will in the eye.
"I'll trash the files tonight," she said.
"I'm going to trust that you will." Will said.
Will walked towards the door of the office.
"Let's go, mom. Bye, Dr. Sash," said
Will.
"Sweet dreams, Will," replied Dr. Sash.
Will put a smile on his face. Will had
never smiled through this incident until now.
"I hope." Will laughed and walked out the door
of the office.
