1. Name two amazing things about Nellie Bly.
2. Why do you think they were amazing?
-
Two amazing things about Nellie Bly are: once in 1888 she
spent ten days pretending to be a patient in a mental hospital
in New York City in order to gather information on the
treatment of the patients, which later resulted in the book,
Ten Days in a Madhouse. I think that was amazing because
it would take courage to pretend to be mentally ill and to
actually complete the task.
-
Another amazing thing about Nellie Bly is in 1889 she made
a trip around the world by steamboat and train in an attempt
to complete the journey in less time than in the book Around
the World in Eighty Days, which was done in 80 days.
Nellie made the trip in 72 days. I think it was amazing because it
would take courage and wit to go around the world and even
in less time than a book.
3. Think about one amazing thing you would
like to do in your life. Describe what it is, and why you want to
do it.
One amazing thing I'd like to do in my life is be a famous author,
as famous as Nellie Bly, and/or have a contest about me.
