second annual Amazing Kids! Comic Strip Drawing Contest is now over. Congratulations
to all who entered.
There were so
many excellent entries, it was a difficult decision for the judges.
We wish we could have given everyone a prize!
We encourage
all of you who love drawing comics to continue drawing and enter
the contest again next year!

Grand
prize: The grand prize winner will get a chance to be mentored by Guy
Gilchrist, the professional syndicated cartoonist and children's book
author who draws the Nancy and Mud Pie comics! They
will also receive original autographed comic strip art from Guy Gilchrist,
Aaron Riddle
and a caricature of themselves drawn by professional caricaturist
Leon Bolling! They will also receive some art supplies and Michael's
gift certificates from last year's winner, Laura Tisdel. Laura generously
offered to donate some prizes, as a way of "giving back," and showing her
gratitude for being chosen as last year's winner. Way to go, Laura!

The lucky
grand prize winner will work with Guy to create a comic strip to appear
regularly in the Amazing
Kids! Comics Pages on the Amazing Kids! website! (Guy mentored
last year's grand
prize winner, too!)
Runners'
up prizes (for one winner from each of the following age categories:
6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15, 16-17): A chance to work
with a professional
artist as their mentor, a gift certificate from Michaels,

Aaron Riddle:

Aaron Riddle is an experienced
illustrator, graphic designer, and professional cartoonist, who has enjoyed
drawing since his toddler years. Very accomplished for his young age (he's
in his last year of college!), his drawings have been printed in several
dozen children's books, humor books, t-shirts, and used for countless websites.
He is also the creator, writer
and artist of Aford, the Best Turtle Comic Strip...Ever! , a daily
syndicated comic strip which appears in many papers: http://www.afordturtle.com/ |
Elgin Leon Bolling:

Elgin Bolling has been a professional
caricature artist since 1990. He got started in art by drawing on
his Mom's walls. His formal art training began at The Brooklyn Museum
Art school when he was just 8 years old! Elgin says: "It's
kinda magical being a visual artist. It is such a joy being able to create
something that the world has never seen before, something that expresses
your emotion and passion."

Guy Gilchrist:

Guy has written & illustrated
40 children’s books, and is the syndicated (his comics appear in many newspapers)
cartoonist of Nancy, The Muppets, Night Lights & Pillow
Fights, Mudpie, and The Rock
Channel.
Guy's work has been shown in
both newspapers, and museums worldwide and permanently enshrined in the
Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. Guy teaches a daily comic strip
lesson for kids on his website: http://www.gilchriststudios.com/.
