Dave
Ross is an artist, author, educator and entrepreneur. Dave's
teaching experience began in 1970 giving art lessons
to inner city children out of a mobile classroom
for the Albright Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo,
New York. He was also an art educator for Shenendehowa Central
Schools for eleven years and has taught numerous
art courses and in-service programs through
area colleges and public schools.
Dave is a frequent lecturer
on children's literature and creative writing, speaking
in many educational settings from elementary school to graduate
school. He has conducted workshops and seminars
for many groups and organizations including,
Parents as Reading Partners, the New York State Reading
Association and the New York State Education Department Humanities
Conference. In 1992, in recognition of his work on behalf
of young people, he was awarded an Honorary Lifetime
Membership in the Parent-Teacher-Student Association
of N.Y. State.
An author and illustrator
of over thirty-five children's books, his work includes,
A Book of Hugs, More Hugs and Baby
Hugs (T.Y. Crowell, 1980, 1984, and 1987),
the Space Monster series (Walker and Company, 1980, 1982,
1983, 1984), How To Prevent Monster Attacks, Baby Bear's
Christmas, and Is It Bedtime?
(Morrow Junior Books, 1984, 1985, 1987).
Two of his books, Space
Monster and Mr. Terwilligar's Secret, were on the International
Association of Reading and Children's Book Council 1982 Children's Choice
List. Dave is currently finishing a three book series for Harper
Collins which will include new versions of A Book of Hugs and A
Book of Kisses as well as
A Book of Friends.
Dave loves to travel
and has made hundreds of school visits from New York
to Hawaii. He has spoken at dozens of conferences and workshops on
a wide variety of subjects from creativity to children's
literature to special needs education. He maintains a website which

In addition to his career
as a book author and illustrator, amazing Dave and his wife run a school
for children with disabilities, Helping
Hands School. The school offers programs for young children with
a wide range of disabilities. Dave and his wife founded Helping Hands
School back in '81 and still operate it. They serve about 200-250
kids a year and are funded through state and county agencies.
