Movie review by Anni, age 5
Arctic Tale is a mix of a
documentary and fiction film. It has real scenes of the Arctic,
but has a made up story about a little polar bear named Nanu and a
young walrus named Seela. They are both newborns and they set off on an
adventure with their families, seeing what the world is like. But
they discover some problems along the way. One time, Seela
gets swept away by the strong current, but her mom and aunt find
her. Nanu's mom teaches her and her brother how to hunt, but the
ice is melting too fast, so they have to get away fast.
The reason the ice was melting was because the Earth is heating up too
fast. This is a true fact and it is called "global
warming." The movie teaches us about this problem, and at the end
of the movie, kids give their ideas for helping to slow down the
Earth's warming.
Some of my favorite parts of the movie were when Seela and Nanu were
newborns, and when they grew up and had babies of their own.
Here are some ideas which you and your parents can do, to help slow
down global warming:
- Plant
a tree
- Take
shorter showers
- Turn
off lights, unplug unused electronic devices
- Use
florescent bulbs
- Turn
your thermostat down two degrees in the winter and turn it up two
degrees in the summer
I would recommend this movie to kids ages 7 and up. There are
some scary parts during the hunting scenes which might be too scary for
littler kids.
