My Amazing Future Essay Contest
I pick up my pencil, and like a painter I draw swirls of color and emotion.
Like a sailor, I steer my story in the direction I choose, intended to
delight and intrigue. Like an actor, I attempt to portray the scenes
and dramas in the comedy of life. My passion is for writing, and
in what I do, I play any number of roles. I hope to become a published
author in the future and I am currently taking steps to realize that dream.
It is important to begin thinking about the future when I am young because
after
high school, I need to allow my future profession
to steer me into the college that is right for me. I need to plan
to be a productive member of society. Writing can be beneficial to
everyone and for the past few years I have relied on that maxim to guide
me in my work.
When I was nine years old, I began an online creative writing club for
teenagers ages 13 to 23 called The Write Stuff. Originating as a small,
unprofessional colloquium for young writers, it has blossomed into a
multifaceted resource for aspiring amateur writers.
While the number of members actually in the club has vacillated through
the six years it has been in existence, at its peak the club had approximately
300 members. The Write Stuff is an opportunity for these young writers
to unite and share their work, in addition to receiving input and camaraderie.
The world will be a better place if everyone learned to express his or
her emotions peacefully, as in writing. There are currently several aspects
of the club
in which members may participate, like a pen
pal service and a send-out with book suggestions. I maintain our
website, www.geocities.com/writestuffclub, and we are always looking to
improve.
Already I am working toward my own personal goal of becoming a writer.
I have won a number of essay contests, and while I am not yet published,
last year I wrote a children's book and spoke to a literary agent who sent
it to the editor of Simon & Schuster. Additionally, I am currently
working on a new novel. I am learning from my mistakes, and hopefully
with a little luck and a lot of effort, I can accomplish my dreams.
