About Creation

In 2003, two fifth graders from New York City, New York, Thomas and Sam, decided to start a band. After asking for other classmates’ interests, the band Creation was formed with six band members. What initially began as merely a fun activity soon evolved into something much more. One night, after lead singer Raechel Rosen’s parents came home from a We Are Family Foundation benefit event, she became inspired to reach out to those less fortunate through music. Creation’s first album, World Without Windows, was released in November of 2005. 100% of the proceeds went to the We Are Family Foundation, a non-profit organization formed after 9/11 to help promote diversity and cultural understanding.

The band’s goal of raising enough money to build a school in Africa was realized when the “Creation” school was completed in March of 2006, in Kegnerela Village, Mali, Africa, in partnership with another organization, Building With Books. In addition to funding the school, Creation also raised enough money to send ten inner-city teenagers to Mali in order to help build the school.

Creation has also partnered with U.S. Doctors For Africa, an organization committed to fighting HIV/AIDS among other infectious diseases in Africa. Last year, Creation was honored at both the US Doctors For Africa Gala and the We Are Family Foundation Gala for their philanthropic efforts. Last September, Creation performed at the United Nations headquarters in New York on International Day of Peace to open the student observance. Moreover, the members of Creation are recipients of the Congressional Award and have been personally commended by former president Bill Clinton.

Through their experiences, the kids of Creation have learned that young people truly can make a difference and make the world a better place for all. They encourage children around the world to discover ways to give back and change the lives of those who are less fortunate. Currently, Creation hopes to raise $250,000 for the We Are Family Foundation’s Just Peace 2007 Summit, which brings together 50 teenagers from various countries to address issues such as conflict resolution and to inform them on the means necessary to achieve world peace in the future.
