Amazing Kids! is proud to highlight the Amazing Kids! of the Month! Each month, we showcase kids who are accomplishing amazing things. We hope that by telling their special stories, we will inspire other kids to accomplish their own amazing achievements.
Amazing Kids! of the Month for February, 1999: The Santa Clara County 4-H Youth!
of the young people in the Santa Clara County 4-H Youth Development Program. Introducing Some Amazing Youth Learning How to Make the World a Better Place... This month Amazing Kids! celebrates the amazing achievement of the young people in the Santa Clara 4-H Youth Development Program! Through their 4-H experience, these amazing kids and teens have learned valuable lessons and skills they will be able to use for the rest of their lives. Their experience has taught them about a variety of things, like the value of helping others, serving their communities, about individual responsibility and leadership, as well as more about themselves and their own amazing potential! Below you will read about the 4-H programs and the special 4-H pledge. You'll also learn what it's like to be a member of 4-H, as some of the amazing young members of the Santa Clara County 4-H Youth Development Program share their own 4-H experiences with you.

4-H History The original goal of the 4-H program was to form boys and girls clubs across the United States in order to teach them agricultural education. Though the programs have expanded to include many other areas for learning, the objective have stayed the same: "the development of youth as individuals and as responsible and productive citizens." 4-H programs are offered in a variety

4H Membership and Volunteers In a study done in 1994, the National 4-H Council found that over 5 and 1/2 million American youth, ages 5-19 participated in 4-H. The same study found that there were 666,582 volunteer leaders working directly and indirectly with youth-- 128,474 of them were 4-H junior & teen leaders!
