    My Story

I'm going to write about me story. I have Scoliosis. I found out somewhere in November 1999. Scoliosis means that the spine is not straight. It is in an "S" shape or a "C" shape. When I found out I had it I thought it was nothing. After the doctor told me it was something. He told me I would have to wear a brace for 5 years. I'd have to wear it 23 hours a day. I started to cry.

I started looking up braces on the computer. After seeing those braces, I really was scared. How would I look? Would people make fun of me? Questions ran through my head. Next the doctor showed me 2 braces. I chose the one that wouldn't show through my clothes. Also so that I could breathe in it. Still, I thought it was hot, ugly and embarrassing. When people ask questions I sort of make up lies so they won't make fun of me. Well, I still got 4 more years to go, then it's off.

      The End

Editor's Note:  Do you have a physical or health-related challenge
like Breanna?  Do you want to share your experiences with
Breanna?  If so, please email us here at Amazing Kids! (info@amazing-kids.org) and we'll share your story with
Breanna. (Maybe you and Breanna can become e-Pals!) :)

Sometimes it helps to know that you aren't the only kid in the
world who has faced some scary things.  Who knows?  Maybe
like Breanna, you too can help teach other kids what it is like to
have a special physical or health-related challenge, so they can understand and not be afraid.
