    Amazing Writers
Tanya, age 14,  New Delhi, India

Tanya wrote this when she was 12 years old.  She lives in New Delhi, India.  She sent Amazing Kids! a poem, an essay and some *letters about what her life is like as a 12 year old girl living in India.

She wrote a beautiful poem about her country, India.  She loves her country and cares deeply about the environment.  Tanya dreams of finding a way to solve India's pollution problems.

Tanya writes many poems, but mostly in her native language, Hindi.  She speaks two languages, so she can translate her poems from Hindi into English.  Pretty amazing, huh?

Read Tanya's essay she wrote to polluters, as part of an essay contest.  She won first place with her essay!  Way to go, Tanya!

Did you ever wonder what it is like to live in India?  Read Tanya's letter about life in New Delhi, and about a special holiday they celebrate called Diwali.  As you'll see, her life is probably very similar to your life in many ways...and although the holidays she celebrates might be different from the ones you celebrate, the way she and her family celebrate them is probably very similar in many ways to your family's celebrations.

Note:  As you read Tanya's amazing writing, you might notice that some words are spelled differently than people in the United States spell them.  For instance, Americans spell  "organization"  and "realize" with a "z;" however, in India and in England, they spell it with an "s."

Amazing Kids! from Far, Far Away...Class or Home Project Ideas

Reading Tanya's letters about life in India might make you want to research more about India for a class project, or at home with your parents.  You may want to read more poems by other poets from India.  Did you know that the Mahabarata is a very, very long epic poem?  Do you know how long it is?

Do you live in another country outside of the United States?  If so, write us a letter here at Amazing Kids!, and we'll add it to our Amazing Writers Library, with your and your parents' or teacher's permission.

Do you want to know more about life in India?  Send us your questions, and we'll ask the expert, (Tanya, of course!) for you. Then we'll post her answers here for you to read!  (All you Amazing Kids out there, please take note: You must have your parent's or teacher's permission first to send email to Amazing Kids!)

    Letter from Tanya

      Dear Ms. Rome,

I think your organisation is a great one and I hope I will be able to convey my thoughts to my friends all over the world.

Besides writing poetry I love to write essays and have won some prizes in it also. One of them was an on-the-spot competition and I won the #1 position. The topic was "I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS TO ASK OF POLLUTERS OF THE ENVIRONMENT".

I have written some good poems but they are in my national language (HINDI).
Some are based on our epics like Mahabharata.  I will try my level best to translate them into English.

      LIFE IN INDIA

...About  life  in  India,  firstly  I  am  an  Indian  and  love  my  nation  immensely  like others  do.  India  has  a  very  rich  and beautiful  culture  which  dates  back  thousands  of  years.  My nation  posseses  great  treasures  of  knowledge as  well
as  art.  If  sometime  you  come  to  India,  you  will  come  to  know  on  your
own.  Singing,  dancing,  writting  poems  are  some  other  things India  boasts  of.  But  nowadays  people  don't  care  of  this beautiful  heritage  and  this  has  given  rise  to  serious  problems like  pollution,  deforestation  etc.  I  wish  someday  people realise  this  and  once  again  make  their  nation  as  beautiful  as it  was  earlier.  I  hope  this  will  give  you  a  good  idea  about  how  my  nation  is.

About  me,  I  am  12  years  old  and  study  in  one  of  the  most prestigious  schools  of  Delhi,  MODERN  SCHOOL.  I  am  a  proud MODERNITE.

I  have  a  sweet  and  intelligent  9  year old brother.  I  live  in  the  southern
part  of  NEW  DELHI  with  my parents  and  grandparents.  Creative writing
is  my  hobby.  Besides this  I  love  to  read,  play  musical  instruments,  hear
songs, and  work  on  the  computer.

Once  again  thanks  for  including  me  into  your  family of AMAZING  KIDS.

        Thanks  &  Best  Regards

      THANKSGIVING IN INDIA?

We don't celebrate Thanksgiving in India, but yes we have a festival known as DIWALI.  It is celebrated in the last days of October or the beginning of November (THE HINDU CALENDAR GOES BY THE MOVEMENT OF CERTAIN STARS)

It is celebrated because it is believed that on this day LORD RAMA (AN INCARNATION OF GOD) came back to his kingdom after a 14 years old exile after killing the demon king Ravana. On this day we burn crackers and lite our houses with "DIYAS" (IT IS A TRADITION) as it is an "Amavasya."  We distribute gifts and get
together for a prayer. We also eat sweets and buy new things.  Some people
make bib investments on this day.  We do many other interesting things.

    INDIA OF MY DREAMS
    by Tanya Dhawan, age 12

I want India to be the best nation of the world.

        It should never rest,
        but keep on having progress.

        The people should not fight,
and be sorry with all their might.

        It should be clean,
        as well as green.

        People should find a solution,
that will through away all the pollution

So this is how I like India to be,
progressive, clean, green and pollution free.

    ESSAY
    by Tanya Dhawan
    Age 12
    New Delhi, India
I Have Some Questions to Ask of Polluters of the Environment

I am a girl from a planet far-far away from EARTH and I have specially come to visit this place.  A few years ago my grandfather had visited the Earth and was full of praise for this beautiful  planet.

He said,  “  THE  EARTH IS FULL OF TREES.  THERE IS FRESH AIR AND THERE ARE BEAUTIFUL RIVERS.  THERE IS PEACE EVERYWHERE.”

But know as I am gazing at the Earth, I find that everything is just the opposite.  EVERYWHERE THERE ARE VEHICLES HOOYING HORNS,  BEAUTIFUL
RIVERS HAVE NOW BECOME POLLUTED, PLANTS ARE DYING AND PEOPLE ARE FALLING ILL DUE TO THE POLLUTION CREATED BY VEHICLES AND FACTORIES.

I wish I could get in contact with people of the Earth, and ask them why they are spoiling the enviroment? What are they up to? Is this what they are gifting to the younger generation?  Don’t they want to preserve Mother Earth?

Cars are there need, but people should at least have a regular pollution check.
Can’t they make a separate factory dump? Cant they plant more trees? Can’t they bring peace back to the Earth and make it as it was earlier?

If this continues, life could even vanish from the planet which is the shelter for billions of people who have now become careless.  I wish they could understand this and try to preserve their MOTHER EARTH.
